Purification of the Acidic Vanadium-Bearing Solution with a Novel Approach of Chemical Precipitation

Calcified roasting followed by dilute sulfuric acid leaching is a promising process for cleaner vanadium extraction from converter slag. However, some impurities, like Ca, Mg, Mn, Si and Al, also transfer into the solution, accompanying V during leaching, leading to product of pentoxide prepared this acidic vanadium-bearing inferior traditional sodium water leaching. A chemical precipitation method was firstly proposed purify solution with new remover MnNH4F3, which combines neutralization fluoride one operational step remove impurities Ca2+, Mg 2+, Al3+ Si4+ in an pH range, simultaneously. Effecting factors involved purification were investigated. It found that removals Al all over 95% around 55% removed as well at stirring speed 200 rpm, adding coefficient 1.6, temperature 50 °C, reaction time 30 min 4.50 ± 0.05, while loss kept lower than 5%, attributed reason reactions mainly proceeded on surface remover. Adding flocculant polyacrylamide conductive accelerating sedimentation precipitate reducing vanadium. Meanwhile, filter aid diatomaceous could improve filtration performance slurry. Ammonium persulfate effectively oxidize separate Mn2+ form MnO2 had been treated but performed less selectivity Mn2+, unacceptable. The purified vanadium-containing satisfied requirements standard grade 98.
